The Port of Vigo welcomed the inaugural call of the cruise ship BOREALIS. The vessel, currently belonging to the Fred. Olsen Cruise Line, docked on October 2nd at approximately 10:30 a.m. at the Transatlantic Pier, having arrived from Gijón. It carried a total of 671 passengers, mostly British, and 655 crew members. The president of the Vigo Port Authority, Jesús Vázquez Almuiña, personally welcomed the ship's captain and presented him with a commemorative plaque marking its first call at the Port of Vigo.
To date, a total of 11,783 people (6,546 passengers and 5,237 crew members) have passed through this terminal in a total of seven cruise ship calls, and another 18 are planned until the end of the year (7 in October, 6 in November and 5 in December).
Last year, the Port of Vigo welcomed seven cruise ship calls, bringing a total of 13,967 people (9,425 passengers and 4,542 crew members). The last call was on March 11th with the Oceana. From that date onwards, cruise ship calls were prohibited due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Consigned by Pérez & Cía in the Port of Vigo, the BOREALIS is currently one of the newly acquired vessels of the shipping company FRED. OLSEN CRUISE LINES. The BOREALIS is a 61,845 gross tonnage vessel. Its principal dimensions are 237.7 meters in length, 32.2 meters in beam, and 7.8 meters in draft. With 12 passenger decks, it can accommodate up to 1,668 passengers. The crew consists of 653 people. The ship brings a number of new spaces and facilities to the fleet, including a large two-level theater and main restaurant, a swimming pool with a retractable roof, a large spa and thermal suite, and the new "The Auditorium" space, which offers culinary demonstrations and much more. Passengers will also have the opportunity to sample new flavors in the new specialty restaurants. "Vasco" offers a fresh and modern take on Indian cuisine; and “Colours & Tastes”, which offers modern Asian fusion dishes.
