The Spirit of Discovery was the last cruise ship to dock at the Curuxeiras pier on March 12, 2020. Shortly after, the pandemic forced restrictions on passenger traffic, and arrivals at the Port of Ferrol were abruptly halted. A year and a half later, the Artania, a 230-meter-long vessel with a capacity for a thousand people, has brought cruise ship calls back to the city.
Health and safety protocols have reduced the ship's crew and passengers, who are grouped in a way that makes it easy to isolate potential positive cases.
In one of his first acts after being appointed to the position, the president of the Ferrol-San Cibrao Port Authority, Francisco Barea, visited the captain of the Artania.
Two more port calls are scheduled for this week. On Thursday the 16th, the MSC Virtuosa, 331 meters long, will arrive; and on Friday, the Amera, 205 meters long, will call.
