International cruise ships will return to Spanish ports from June 7th, following the resolution of the Directorate General of the Merchant Marine that establishes the new protocol for stops in Spain and which was published on May 29th in the Official State Gazette.
The Ministry of Health has prepared the document “Health measures for the resumption of international cruises” which includes the protocol that ships making international trips stopping at Spanish ports must implement.
This activity is considered to be safe, both for cruise passengers and for the population of the towns where the ports they visit are located.
The positive evolution of the pandemic in recent weeks at the European level, from where most international cruise passengers with stops in Spanish ports come, as well as the increase in vaccination coverage against SARS-CoV-2 and the decrease in the risk level of the Autonomous Communities with ports likely to receive this type of ship, facilitate the planning of reactivation of this tourism.
Portugal and Italy already allow international cruises, and France announced that cruises will be permitted from June 30. The United Kingdom, Germany, and the Baltic countries are not yet open to cruise ships docking on international itineraries.
Spanish ports are prepared to receive cruise ships with all health guarantees.
