Carla Salvado has taken up the newly created position of deputy director at the Port of Barcelona after leaving Global Ports Holding, where she was cruise marketing director since 2016. She was Secretary General of MedCruise for three years and president of MedCruise for a period of time in 2014, remaining on its Board of Directors in the following years while working at the Port and also at Global Port Holdings.
As part of a restructuring, the Port of Barcelona is creating a new Innovation and Business Strategy Area and transforming the current Strategy and Sales Sub-Directorate into the General Directorate of Sales and Marketing. This reorganization responds to the need to adapt the Port's organizational structure to the rapid changes occurring in its environment in order to better address challenges such as the transformation of logistics and port business models, the energy and digital revolutions, and disruptions like COVID-19.
The Innovation and Business Strategy Area will be headed by Santiago García-Milá, current Deputy Director General of Strategy and Commercial at the Port of Barcelona and President of the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH). Regarding the new Deputy Directorate General of Commercial and Marketing, its activity directly impacts service delivery and, consequently, customer satisfaction. It requires a prominent figure to lead the highest-level commercial dialogue, proactively driving projects and capable of conveying a comprehensive view of the sector to stakeholders. This individual must be flexible and empathetic in negotiation processes and lead the recovery and growth of traffic. The ideal candidate is Carla Salvadó, who was Head of Marketing and Cruises at the Port of Barcelona until 2016 and is now returning after a leave of absence. Salvadó has extensive experience in the private sector, which will help him in his responsibilities, which include promoting the Port of Barcelona's services to the hinterland and foreland, customer service, managing the Efficiency Network Quality Mark, and tasks related to market research and analysis.
Santiago Garcia-Milà and Carla Salvadó will lead this restructuring over the next three months to ensure a smooth transition for both clients and staff within the sub-directorate. The changes and appointments will take effect once this period concludes.
