MSC Cruises announced today the temporary suspension of operations for MSC Grandiosa at the end of this month and the postponement of the planned restart of MSC Magnifica to January. This is due to the new measures imposed yesterday by the Italian government for the Christmas and New Year period.
The new measures include strict restrictions on the movement of people throughout the country, which would impact the ability of future passengers – both Italian residents and those from other countries – to reach Italian embarkation ports.
The new decree has therefore caused the cancellation of three scheduled MSC Grandiosa trips and three MSC Magnifica trips.
MSC Grandiosa will temporarily suspend its current 7-night program on December 20 in Genoa, Italy. The ship will resume operations in the Western Mediterranean on January 10, 2021, also departing from Genoa.
MSC Magnifica, which had planned its 10-night Mediterranean cruises to depart from Genoa on December 18, will now begin its program on January 15, 2021, after canceling its three previous cruises.
In January, MSC Cruises will welcome passengers back aboard MSC Grandiosa and MSC Magnifica under the protection of its health and hygiene protocol which, even during the last few weeks – when the pandemic on land has had its most recent peak – has proven to work effectively for the protection of passengers, crew and communities that the ship visits.
Since August, MSC Cruises' industry-leading protocol has allowed more than 30,000 passengers to sail safely and responsibly.
Passengers affected by the temporary suspension of MSC Grandiosa and the delay in the start of MSC Magnifica will receive a voucher for a future cruise with the amount of their booking that they can spend throughout 2021, along with an onboard credit of up to €200 per cabin to enjoy when they return onboard.
All prepaid services – such as drinks or excursions – will be automatically refunded.
