CLIA, the association that represents the cruise industry, announced that its member cruise lines have agreed to maintain the voluntary suspension of cruises from the U.S. until at least October 31, 2020.
The association issued the following statement:
Despite the valuable alignment between CLIA's previous voluntary suspension until September 15 and the current CDC No Sail Order date of September 30, we believe it is prudent at this time to voluntarily extend the suspension of ocean cruise operations from the U.S. until October 31. This is a difficult decision, as we recognize the devastating impact this pandemic has had on our community and all other industries. However, we believe this proactive action further demonstrates the cruise industry's commitment to public health, as well as its willingness to voluntarily suspend operations in the interest of public health and safety, as has occurred twice before. CLIA cruise line members will continue to monitor the situation, understanding that we will revisit a possible further extension before September 30, 2020. At the same time, if conditions in the U.S. change and it becomes possible to consider shorter and modified sailings, we would consider an earlier restart.
