Viking has announced the launch of its newest ship next summer for its popular Magnificent Mekong cruise. Currently under construction, the 80-passenger Viking Saigon is scheduled to debut on August 30, 2021, with a river cruise between Kampong Cham, Cambodia, and Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam.
“For many of our passengers, Vietnam and Cambodia remain top destinations due to their significance in world history,” said Torstein Hagen, President of Viking. “We have led the river cruise industry by developing our fleet and experiences that bring travelers closer to the world’s cultures for more than two decades. This will be the most modern ship on the Mekong and will be a ‘home’ for our loyal passengers who are already familiar with our ships’ comfortable design.”.
Built for the Mekong River, the new Viking Saigon will accommodate 80 passengers in its 40 outside cabins. Featuring the company's signature Scandinavian design, all cabins will offer hotel-style beds and floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors with either a bay window or a French balcony. Passengers on the Viking Saigon will also enjoy a Spa & Fitness Center, an infinity pool, and an open-air Sky Bar on the top deck.
During their 15-day "Magnificent Mekong" voyage, passengers explore the cultural treasures of Vietnam and Cambodia with 16 guided tours. Hotel stays in Hanoi, Siem Reap, and Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) allow for an eight-day Mekong River cruise on this unique itinerary. Passengers can enjoy shopping in the markets of Old Hanoi, explore the Khmer temple complex of Angkor Wat, visit Ta Prohm, where jungle vines embrace ancient ruins, and see the sights of Phnom Penh by cyclo rickshaw. The river cruise portion of the itinerary takes guests to discover silk cities, fishing villages, monasteries, and floating markets. The company offers multiple departure dates starting in August 2021.
