New research from the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) indicates that interest in cruises remains strong despite the unprecedented situation caused by the COVID-19 outbreak.
This recent CLIA survey allowed for a comparison of consumer opinions between the fall of 2019 and the spring of 2020. The results showed that overall interest in cruises remains strong.
Of those surveyed in Spain, 87% of those who had previously traveled on a cruise indicated that they are interested in doing so again in the coming years, compared to 78% in the fall of 2019, representing an increase of 9%.
On the other hand, among those who have not yet taken a cruise, 53% expressed interest in taking a cruise on their next vacation, while last fall the figure was 62%.
“These results show that public opinion recognizes our industry’s commitment to health and safety, especially those who have experienced it firsthand on board,” said Alfredo Serrano, director of CLIA Spain.
CLIA cruise lines have been committed to protecting public health on cruises for over 50 years, and this period of suspended operations is being used to determine ways to go even further in protecting the health of passengers, crew, and the communities we visit. Therefore, CLIA is working under the guidance of health authorities worldwide, along with recognized scientists and medical experts, to inform our planning so that when we resume sailing, we can do so with every assurance.
