The transformation of the Carnival Victory into the Carnival Radiance, which was to take place at Navantia Cadiz, has been suspended, and the European cruises that the ship was going to make have been cancelled.
Carnival Cruise Line made the decision based on the shutdown of operations at Navantia and all the travel restrictions caused by the coronavirus pandemic. The ship was already in the shipyard, and the refurbishment was so extensive that €200 million would have been invested in creating new restaurants, attractions, and shops. With the work stoppage, Carnival has encountered significant difficulties in repatriating the 1,500 workers from 60 different countries who were on board to work on the refurbishment.
Navantia is trying to reschedule the lost work for the summer.
