The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection confirms order for a second luxury cruise yacht from the Barreras shipyard in Vigo

The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection and the Hijos de J. Barreras shipyard announced the signing of an order for a second luxury cruise yacht, to be delivered in the summer of 2021.

Douglas Prothero, CEO of The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, expressed his satisfaction with the great reception the new company has received since sales opened last year, and stressed that this second ship will allow them to grow in terms of destinations and capacity, at a time when the luxury cruise sector is booming.

The ship will be virtually identical to the Azora, the first ship to enter service later this year. It will therefore be 190 meters long and 23.80 meters wide, with capacity for 298 passengers in suites and 246 crew members.

For his part, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, President of the Xunta de Galicia (Galician Regional Government), thanked the hotel group for its commitment to the Vigo shipyard and urged them to also establish business relationships with major Galician contract companies. The Xunta de Galicia visited Miami earlier this year to support negotiations for this second vessel and to meet with the Port of Miami to explore potential synergies.

Joser Garcia Costa, CEO of Hijos de J. Barreras, denied that any negotiations had taken place for The Ritz-Carlton or Marriott to become shareholders in the shipyard, as some local media had speculated, and thanked the Xunta de Galicia for its help in organizing courses to train more personnel for the sector.
