On Sunday, March 31, Gibraltar received the first inaugural visit of the new Mein Schiff 2, a ship built by Meyer Werft in Finland for TUI Cruises, a German-based cruise company belonging to the TUI Group / Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd, which was christened in Lisbon on February 9, 2019, during its maiden voyage.
The 111,500-ton vessel is a sister ship to the New Mein Schiff 1, which was delivered to the cruise line in April 2018. Both cruise ships are 315 meters long, making them 20 meters longer than their predecessors. The ship has 16 decks and 1,447 cabins, with a maximum capacity of 2,894 passengers and 1,000 crew members.
The Mein Schiff 2 is the newest member of the TUI Cruises fleet and features the latest innovations, state-of-the-art equipment and environmentally friendly construction.
The main language on board is German, the atmosphere is relaxed, and great importance is placed on comfort and good food. During the summer, the ship will sail several itineraries in the western Mediterranean from its home port of Palma de Mallorca, before heading to the Caribbean in October, where it will sail from Bridgetown and La Romana.
Gibraltar remains an attractive port of call for cruise ships and a destination chosen by TUI Group cruises in particular, with their constant calls during the winter months.
