London, June 29, 2018 – The Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) has announced that Thomas Boardley will join the organization as CLIA Europe Secretary General on October 1, 2018.
In her new role, she will play a key part in the strategic implementation of CLIA programs across Europe.
Boardley has experience in the port and shipping industries, and most recently served as Executive Vice President for External and Corporate Affairs at Lloyd's Register.
There he was responsible for boosting Lloyd's Register's influence across all its business activities, including the maritime and offshore business areas, energy, inspection services and management systems, as well as developing a new external affairs function.
Boardley began his career with OCL in 1978 as a graduate intern and has worked at OCL, P&OCL, P&O Containers, and finally, P&O Nedlloyd and P&O Ports, for 26 years.
He joined the Board of P&O Containers in 1996, where he was responsible for the merger of P&O and Nedlloyd at ANZ from 1996 to 2002, when he was appointed Commercial and Development Director of P&O Ports, where he led the acquisition of four businesses. Boardley was European CEO of NYK Line between 2005 and 2007 and MD UK of CMA-CGM between 2008 and 2009; before joining Lloyd's Register in 2009.

Boardley's pro bono positions include chairing the Board of Trustees of Mission to Seafarers, a charity dedicated to the welfare of seafarers, and serving as a Visiting Professor at Strathclyde University. He is a board member of the World Ocean Council, a member of the advisory board of the UCL Energy Institute & Institute for Sustainable Resources International, and a member of London International Shipping Week. He was president of the UK Chamber of Shipping from 2015 to 2016.
