Barcelona, June 13, 2018 – After a decade of rapid growth and development in China and the introduction of the most pioneering technological advances on the market, the cruise company Royal Caribbean International is once again redefining the concept of holidays at sea with the Spectrum of the Seas, which will be the first ship of its new Quantum Ultra class.
With a capacity for 4,246 passengers and 1,551 crew members, the Spectrum of the Seas will become the most technologically advanced ship in Asia. Homeported in Shanghai, the vessel will visit new ports of call such as Hakodate (Japan), Niggita (Japan), Ilocos (Philippines), and Vladivostok (Russia). The Spectrum of the Seas will debut in April 2019 with the Global Odyssey voyage, a 51-night journey departing from Barcelona and visiting 13 countries.
The company unveiled the new features of its 26th ship at an event in China, attended by Michael Bayley, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean International. “When Quantum of the Seas made its debut in Shanghai three years ago, it changed the concept of cruising in China. Today, we are once again transforming the world with Spectrumof the Seas,” said Bayley. “The introduction of our new and visionary Quantum Ultra class represents a major leap forward for the industry, both in terms of design and experiences specifically tailored for Chinese passengers.”
The first private suite area at sea
The new Quantum Ultra-class ship will feature the first exclusive and private suite area, housing the luxurious Golden and Silver Suites. These suites will be located in a prime spot at the bow of the ship, and their guests will have a special access card, a private elevator, and their own restaurant and lounge. They will also have access to exclusive areas such as The Balcony, an open-air space for sunbathing and relaxation, and The Boutique, a shopping area where guests can book private shopping experiences.
The ship will also feature the Ultimate Family Suite, a cabin specially designed for families, also found on the Symphony of the Seas. Accommodating up to 11 passengers, the Ultimate Family Suite will have over 260 square meters spread over two floors, where entertainment takes center stage with a dedicated children's room featuring board games, karaoke, movies, and video games.
Revolutionary gastronomic proposals
TheSpectrum of the Seas will feature a three-story main dining room with seating for 1,844 passengers, serving a varied menu of both Chinese and Western food, and its famous Windjammer Marketplace buffet, with Chinese and Japanese food.
The ship features two new dining options: Sichuan Red, a new specialty restaurant located on the Royal Esplanade, serving authentic Chinese cuisine from Sichuan province, and Leaf and Bean, a tea and coffee lounge offering the finest Chinese teas and traditional sweets. Some of Royal Caribbean's most iconic restaurants can be found on Spectrum of the Seas , including Wonderland's Dadong, by renowned Chinese chef Dong Zhenxiang, Jamie's Italian, Izumi, and Chops Grille.
The best entertainment
Royal Caribbean will introduce Star Moment, a lively karaoke experience where travelers of all ages can become true stars, to Spectrum of the Seas . Passengers can also experience the North Star, an observation capsule that rises more than 90 meters above sea level, offering the best panoramic views. In addition, the ship will feature the renovated SeaPlex sports and entertainment complex, the largest at sea; RipCord by iFly, a skydiving simulator; and the FlowRider surf simulator.
Cutting-edge and transformative spaces like Two70, with large windows and 270-degree ocean views and the exclusive Vistarama technology, which transforms panoramic windows into a projection surface more than 30 meters wide and more than 6 meters high where you can enjoy spectacular digital shows, will complete the attractive proposal.
Comprehensive and immersive itineraries in Asia
With Spectrum of the Seas, Royal Caribbean will offer a broader selection of cruises in Asia for the 2019 season, including new, longer itineraries with new ports of call, weekend getaways for quick escapes, and warm tropical destinations to enjoy during the winter. Guests can choose from 27 unique itineraries, with 23 destinations in three countries, departing from ports such as Shanghai, Tianjin, Hong Kong, and Shenzhen, China.
