Cruise Industry News confirms Havila's shipbuilding program, with four ships planned for 2021, and indicates that the Norwegian company has reached an agreement with Barreras, in Vigo, Spain, to build two of the four planned vessels.
The contract is expected to be worth 200 million euros per ship, with vessels that will have a capacity for 700 passengers and will be powered by LNG.
Hurtigruten and Havila will share the Norwegian coastal service in 2021, with a total of seven ships in service for Hurtigruten and four for Havila, following the recent appointment of Arild Myrvoll to the position of CEO of its coastal business unit.
Although Norwegian shipyards were considered as possible options for building the ships, Norwegian media have ultimately stated that none of Havila's new ships will be built in Norway.
