In this report, the association reveals the strength of its ports and member associations, working together with industry stakeholders to benefit local communities and achieve sustainable growth.

In 2017, MedCruise members welcomed 25.9 million passenger movements. This figure is 18% higher than the previous decade, as cruise passenger movements in 2008 did not exceed 21.9 million. In 2018, the total number of passenger movements is expected to be around 27 million.

Regarding the number of cruise ship calls, MedCruise ports recorded 12,139 in 2017, a 22% decrease compared to the 15,475 calls in 2008. The trend towards larger cruise ships has been a key factor in this decline. It is also worth noting that 2017 marked the third consecutive year in which the average number of passengers per cruise ship in the Mediterranean and adjacent seas exceeded 2,000.

At the report's presentation, Airam Díaz Pastor, President of MedCruise, stated, “The 2017 statistics reveal positive characteristics in many locations in the Mediterranean and its adjacent seas. We are all working to support our members in their efforts to invest in and attract more cruise activity to the MedCruise region , and we are committed to developing the strategy approved at the General Assembly in October 2017 to improve the position of MedCruise ports and the association itself within the cruise industry.”
