Princess Cruises and the Italian shipyard Fincantieri held a ceremony to mark the completion of the bow of the future Sky Princess. This new ship will be the fourth in the company's Royal class and will debut in October 2019 with a series of Mediterranean itineraries. The event took place in Castellammare di Stabia (Naples) on February 1st.
The bow, which is 130 meters long, 43 meters wide, approximately 25 meters high and weighs around 7,600 tons, will be transported by sea to Monfalcone (Italy) where it will be assembled with the rest of the ship that Fincantieri is building.
The Sky Princess, designed to carry 3,660 passengers, will feature an evolution of the successful design platform used for previous Royal-class ships: Royal Princess, Regal Princess, and Majestic Princess. The new ship will incorporate signature elements that have become synonymous with the brand's finest experience and will bring together the best features of the ships in this line.
“The construction process is truly wonderful, and every completed milestone is cause for celebration,” said Rai Caluori, Executive Vice President and Head of Onboard Experience and Product Development at Princess Cruises. “Together with our partner Fincantieri, we launched the bow section of the Sky Princess, which will require a significant investment of human resources to build.”
This is what the inaugural Sky Princess cruises will be like
- The inaugural cruise, departing in October and November 2019 and lasting seven days, will sail the Mediterranean and Adriatic Seas, departing from Athens and ending in Barcelona. This voyage can be combined with a seven-day Mediterranean cruise from Barcelona to Rome, creating a 14-day Western Mediterranean and Adriatic cruise from Athens to Rome.
- Another option is the new seven-day trip, also through the Mediterranean and with a round trip from Rome, which can be combined with the seven-day Barcelona-Rome cruise, with stops at some of the most emblematic ports in the Mediterranean area.
- Passengers can also enjoy the 14-day Barcelona-Ft. Lauderdale (Miami) itinerary, which can be combined with the above options, resulting in an unforgettable 21 or 28-day adventure aboard this new ship crossing the Mediterranean and the Atlantic.
- The end result is exciting: one ship, 15 destinations, eight countries, ten departure dates with unique itineraries and more than ten places declared World Heritage by UNESCO, including the historic centers of the cities of Kotor, Corfu, Naples or the Vatican, among others.
