The arrival of the Royal Clipper, the world's largest five-masted sailing ship, at the Port of Motril always attracts attention from institutions and individuals alike. To mark the occasion, the Motril City Council and the Granada Provincial Council, in collaboration with the Port Authority and Motrilport, have developed a promotional initiative as part of the 2017 cruise season. This initiative involved the presentation, at the dock, of a symbolic gift showcasing the abundance of subtropical fruits grown in the Costa Tropical region.
“This is a commitment to promoting and showcasing local products and gastronomy to the cruise ship segment,” stated Deputy Mayor for Tourism, Alicia Crespo, who accompanied the President of the Port Authority. Francisco Álvarez de la Chica cited the Royal Clipper as the ship that “has the greatest value for our destination.”.
Tropical Orchard
The company supplying the products for the promotional campaign was Huerta Tropical, headed by the young entrepreneur Borja Piedra García. His image and project are being used by Google in international media to promote its training courses, as he participated in the Google Activate program and was a finalist in the 2017 Andalucía Emprende awards.
The Royal Clipper, the world's largest five-masted sailing ship, now has a plaque on the Costa dock in the Port of Motril, recognizing the shipping company's commitment to Motril, the coast, and the province of Granada. This vessel has docked fourteen times, including today, while the company has made a total of 44 calls with its entire fleet since 2006.
The sailboat arrived in Motril with 283 people on board, including passengers and crew, of whom about 100 were able to take a shuttle bus to explore the city. Excursions to Granada and the Alhambra were also organized
