Both organizations will collaborate to further boost the growth of the industry in Europe. A series of initiatives have been agreed upon, including the creation of a working group which, following its launch in early 2017 and continuing for the next five years, will focus on European environmental issues. Through a collaborative agenda, they will launch a program of joint activities to foster a European framework that promotes sustainable maritime transport operations and environmental protection.

During industry conferences and meetings, annual workshops will be organized to address environmental issues, with the active participation and investment of CLIA and Cruise Europe.

Pierfrancesco Vago, President of CLIA Europe, stated: “I am delighted that Cruise Europe and CLIA have signed this agreement. This joint initiative, based on cooperation and knowledge sharing, will strengthen our industry’s social responsibility and continue to take into account the European economic contribution. This project represents a step forward in the actions we are taking to collaborate with environmental stakeholders, develop innovative technologies, and help the maritime sector adopt practices and policies that promote environmental sustainability. Sharing knowledge and experience in environmental matters will allow us to further disseminate our initiatives in this field to our respective audiences and the general public.”.

Michael McCarthy, president of Cruise Europe, added: “Cruise Europe’s management team looks forward to collaborating with CLIA to help the industry continue to grow. The collaboration will focus on environmental issues that will be of concern to our local partners over the next three to five years.”.

He concluded by emphasizing that “with 25 years of experience in the industry, Cruise Europe is well-positioned to contribute to, collaborate on, and influence regulatory and environmental issues at the local, national, and international levels. This is of vital importance to our industry, given that the current political climate is clearly trending toward protectionist and isolationist policies in global trade, the environment, and travel. Cruise Europe’s partner community can bring significant value and expertise through its more than 120 ports and member ports.”.
