MedCruise has presented at the Fort Lauderdale trade show in Florida, the 2016 edition of its statistical report, which shows the activity of MedCruise's partner ports in terms of cruises, during the 2015 season.
The presentation took place at Seatrade Cruise Global 2016, where the Association took the opportunity to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
In 2015, MedCruise's partner ports attracted 27.4 million cruise passengers, compared to just 8.6 million at the beginning of the 21st century. This figure also represents an increase over the previous year, when it reached 25.8 million in 2014.
As for the number of ships that called at the port in 2015, this was around 13,194, while in 2014 it was 4.4% higher, totaling 13,813.
The trend of shipping companies increasing the size of their vessels has determined the number of port calls. 2015 was the first year in which the number of passengers per port call in the region exceeded 2,000, whereas at the beginning of the 21st century it was only 848.
This report demonstrates the adaptability that the associated ports have shown since the beginning of the 21st century.
The president of MedCruise, who presented the report, stated, “The MedCruise report shows another successful year for partner ports in the Mediterranean, which account for 80% of total passenger traffic in the region. This report has demonstrated that fantastic holidays can be enjoyed in the Mediterranean, confirming the growth it will show in the future.”
