The director of the Port Authority, José Rafael Díaz Hernández, assures that this building will “completely” change the image that tourists have of the Port.
The new cruise terminal at the Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife will be completed in August. According to information from the Port Authority regarding the company carrying out the work, the project will be finished a month ahead of schedule.
The Port Authority director, José Rafael Díaz Hernández, was even more optimistic yesterday. “We believe the work will be completed by the end of July,” he explained. However, aware that construction can always be delayed for various reasons, he indicated August as a firm date when the entire completed facility will be ready for public use.
The entire facility will have a surface area of 8,473 square meters, 7,000 more than the current station, which is being used temporarily. Its length, perhaps the most striking feature at the moment given the ongoing construction, is over 200 meters. The building is located on the Ribera Wharf and will have the capacity to accommodate up to 4,000 tourists.
In addition to a lobby, the terminal will have 50 check-in and ticket counters, a waiting room for approximately 500 people, a luggage area, and a passenger boarding control area to ensure the safety of those boarding the ships. There will also be space for a bar and several retail outlets. Outside the building, where several backhoes are already working, there will be a parking area for both tour vehicles and taxis.
