The Port Authority of Ceuta has planned to increase the number of cruise ship calls this year and next year as a result of efforts made at the Miami Fair to attract this type of tourism and following the unfavorable figures of recent years.
Sources at the port of Ceuta explained to Efe that the objective of the meetings held at this gathering of professionals was to increase the number of ships, especially after the recent negative figures.
The president of the Ceuta port, José Francisco Torrado, explained that the expectations are "very good" for 2016 and highlighted the influence that the works to be carried out in the Ceuta port to adapt it to this type of ship will have in this aspect.
The port of Ceuta closed the 2014 cruise season as the worst year in terms of tourist traffic on board these ships, receiving only four calls.
Between January and December, only the Adonia arrived in January with 700 passengers, the “Deutschland” in April with 500 passengers, the “Amadea” in May with 600 passengers, and the “Ocean Princess” in May, also with 600 passengers on board.
This figure represents the most negative in recent years, although the year 2013 also ended with four stops, albeit with a higher number of passengers.
Ceuta experienced its cruise boom in 2008 with 25 calls after 20 calls in 2007, going to 10 calls in 2009, 8 in 2010, 6 in 2011, another 7 calls in 2012 until reaching four in the last two years.
