MSC Cruises and Lego join forces to build magical memories at sea

The world's favorite toy manufacturer will design and equip the new LEGO® playrooms inside the 4 ships of the Lirica Family, thus expanding the "LEGO EXPERIENCE" already offered by all ships in the fleet.

MSC Cruises and The LEGO Group have joined forces to create new LEGO® playrooms and activities for families and children on board the fleet's ships.

The agreement is part of MSC Cruises' strategy to optimize the overall onboard experience for travelers by partnering with global brands that are benchmarks of excellence in their respective fields. In the case of LEGO, MSC Cruises has long offered the brand's toys to travelers on all 12 ships in its fleet, and now adds the opportunity to offer its customers even more specific products and dedicated play areas for younger travelers.

Under this agreement, The LEGO Group will design new play areas on board MSC Armonia, which is currently being refurbished and lengthened as part of MSC Cruises' ambitious Renaissance Program* . MSC passengers will have the opportunity to discover these new features starting in November on their Canary Islands itinerary.

Thus, The LEGO Group will provide a wide selection of its well-known building sets, which are sure to attract the creative attention of the little ones.

Specifically, among the numerous improvements introduced on ships undergoing the Renaissance Program to create unforgettable, fun, and relaxing family cruises are several clubs and leisure facilities for five different age groups: Baby Club (under 3 years old); Mini Club (3 to 6 years old); Juniors Club (7 to 11 years old); Young Club (12 to 14 years old); and Teens Club (15 to 17 years old). Thus, when the newly renovated MSC Armonia sets sail again on November 19th to begin its winter season with weekly 8-day cruises to the Canary Islands and Morocco or Portugal, it will feature specific LEGO play materials such as:

  • LEGO® DUPLO® for children under 3 years old, which includes games and challenges
  • Classic LEGO® bricks and a Vertical Play Wall for children aged 7-11
  • “Building Happening” for children aged 6 to 11: it involves making themed constructions with a limited number of pieces
  • One LEGO EXPERIENCE DAY per cruise, after which participants will receive a special LEGO® Master Builder Diploma
  • A two-meter-tall LEGO mascot called “Sailor Walkabout” will join the MSC Cruises crew to greet and welcome children and add fun to parades and events on board.

All these services will be available free of charge and will also be offered on board the two new ships that will join the MSC Cruises fleet in 2017**.

MSC Cruises CEO Gianni Onorato stated: “Both The LEGO Group and MSC Cruises are family-owned businesses with strong values and a global reputation, making them a perfect fit. The LEGO Group’s bricks and toys are beloved by thousands of people who grew up playing with them, and with this partnership, we hope to give our young travelers the chance to create unforgettable memories they will cherish forever. We are proud to have The LEGO Group as a partner in MSC’s cruise concept, and I know our youngest travelers will be thrilled with this exciting new addition.”
