Throughout this week, the Vigo dock has welcomed nearly 14,000 people during four calls by large cruise ships.
Next Saturday, October 18th, the Transatlantic Pier will once again receive the Oasis of the Seas, which will depart from Vigo to depart for the Caribbean.
More than 7,500 people will arrive this weekend at the Port of Vigo aboard the Independence of the Seas and the Oceana, which are making a stop in our city. The first to arrive was the Independence of the Seas, which holds the second position in the ranking of cruise ships in terms of passenger capacity. A regular visitor to the Transatlantic Pier, it will bring more than 5,000 people to our city in a single day.
Belonging to the same shipping company as the Oasis of the Seas, Royal Caribbean arrived at approximately 9:30 a.m. from Lisbon (Portugal), and is scheduled to set sail for Southampton (Great Britain) around 4:00 p.m.
This year, the Independence of the Seas will call at the Port of Vigo up to ten times, bringing more than 50,000 people to the city, including passengers and crew. After today's stop, it will return to the Vigo docks on October 15, at which point it will depart the port until next year.
The Independence of the Seas is the second largest cruise ship in the world, after the Oasis of the Seas - which visited the Port of Vigo last Saturday the 27th and will return to Vigo on October 18th - along with its sister ships, the Freedom Of The Seas and the Liberty Of The Seas.
Built in Finland, it can accommodate a total of 4,370 passengers and a crew of 1,360. It has 1,817 cabins available (21 of them for people with reduced mobility).
The Independence of the Seas is the third ship in the Freedom fleet. Along its 339 meters in length, it offers all kinds of amenities: restaurants, theaters, cafes, a shopping center, a medical center, a hair salon… as well as all sorts of attractions, such as a surf simulator, jacuzzi, gym, ice skating rink, rock climbing wall, and boxing ring.
Oceana Scale
Following the stopover of this giant of the sea, tomorrow, Sunday, it will be the Oceana's turn, whose arrival at the Transatlantic Pier is scheduled for 7:00 a.m. It will arrive from Porto and will set sail around 2:00 p.m. for Southampton (Great Britain)
With a gross tonnage of 77,499, a length of 261 meters, and a draft of eight meters, the Oceana can accommodate a total of 1,900 passengers and a crew of 800. Owned by P&O Cruises, the Oceana offers passengers a variety of areas with bars of all themes and a distinctly British flavor. Highlights include the elegant, glass-enclosed, circular main hall that rises across eight decks and features two panoramic elevators, a large conference room capable of accommodating up to 300 people, an extensive art collection, a library with hundreds of books and music channels with DVDs, a spacious pool area with excellent sea views, and the large Monte Carlo Club casino with numerous slot machines for entertainment. For the little ones, Oceana has different programs designed for them, such as the "Treasure Chest", "The Hideout" and "The Buzz Zone".
After dinner, passengers can enjoy British humor or a Broadway-style musical in the elegant Footlights Theatre or the charming Starlights cabaret lounge, with its outdoor views. In these and other venues, the company organizes dance classes for singles, couples, and groups.
There are places for fun and entertainment, but also for relaxation. The onboard spa has everything you need for a relaxing stay. The thermal area also includes a fully equipped gym with views of the exterior from the bow. And for lovers of international cuisine, there are several options, such as the two main restaurants, "Adriatic" and "Ligurian." For those who prefer a more casual meal, the Oceana offers the "Plaza" buffet, the "Horizon" grill, and several cafes.
P&O Cruises ships are particularly known for their British atmosphere. Virtually 100% of the passengers sailing with this company are English, Scottish, Irish, and so on. These ships cater to a British middle-class clientele and offer a wide range of cruises in Northern Europe, the Mediterranean (departing from Great Britain), the Caribbean, and their classic world cruises.

Next Saturday, October 18, the Transatlantic Pier will once again welcome the Oasis of the Seas, the world's largest cruise ship, along with its twin, the Allure of the Seas, which will bid farewell to Europe from Vigo to head for the Caribbean.
As with its inaugural stop on September 27, the Oasis will be in Vigo for twelve hours, although this time its arrival in Vigo is scheduled for 08.00 hours, where it will remain docked until 20.00.
