Motril Cruise Forum: a clear commitment to cruising
The Motril Cruise Forum, a "Tourism Forum for the Development of Commercial Actions " organized by Cruises News Media Group, in collaboration with the Granada Chamber of Commerce, the Motril Chamber of Commerce, the Motril City Council, Granada Tourism, the Association of Municipalities of the Costa Tropical of Granada, and the UNED of Motril itself, where the meeting took place on October 8, has been a resounding success in terms of participation and has demonstrated the interest that the port and the city have in continuing to climb positions in the ranking of cruise destinations and in further professionalizing their services.
Directed and moderated by Virginia López, Director of CRUISES NEWS MEDIA GROUP, the objective of this forum was to present all the business opportunities that cruise traffic can represent for Motril, analyze the promotional activities that its port and institutions have developed to receive the ever-increasing number of cruise ships and distribute knowledge about a sector that stimulates the economies of destinations. The forum featured presentations from professionals such as Alfredo Serrano , Director of the CRUISE LINE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION – CLIA ; Sebastián Camps , a cruise industry expert who focused on integrating cruise activity into Mediterranean cities and ports; Francisco González-Méndez Herrera , Director of the MOTRIL PORT AUTHORITY; and Pascual Rivas, from the Granada Provincial Tourism Board , who explained how a destination prepares internationally to receive cruise ships. Fernando Muñoz , Commercial Director of the CARTAGENA PORT AUTHORITY , complemented this topic by analyzing Cartagena's success in receiving cruise ships. For their part, Miguel Ángel Biosca García , supervisor of port operations in the Mediterranean for INTERCRUISES SHORESIDE & PORT SERVICES , and Teresa Hölzl, supervisor of operations and product in the excursions area of the same company, detailed the role of the land operator , the services they complement for the shipping company on land, including agency and excursions.
In addition , Carmen Fernández , Director of Crew Management and Consulting and recruiter for Seven Seas Group, presented real job opportunities aboard cruise ships. Her presentation sparked interest among attendees, as she described actual selection processes and encouraged some to submit their applications. The roundtable discussion that concluded the forum, which also included Emiliano González, Managing Director of MSC Cruises, and Paul Nuyens , Business Development Director of SeaDream Yacht Club , addressed topics such as the real needs of a cruise line when choosing a port or destination for its itineraries, the profile of its clients, and the reasons behind their choice of excursions. The discussion featured active participation from the attendees.
At the end of the Forum, the invited speakers and the organization enjoyed a tour of the port area and the city of Motril.
