Cathay Pacific strengthens its presence in Latin America through its collaboration with Iberia

Cathay Pacific has expanded its coverage in Latin America with the addition of new codeshare flights to Fortaleza and Recife (Brazil), Buenos Aires (Argentina), and Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic), via Madrid and in collaboration with Iberia, its oneworld alliance partner. These new flights bring Argentina and the Dominican Republic into the Cathay Pacific network for the first time, strengthening connectivity between Hong Kong and this emerging region of Latin America.

Cathay Pacific strengthens its presence in Latin America through its collaboration with IberiaCurrently, Cathay Pacific offers connections to six destinations in four Latin American countries—Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo (Brazil), Mexico City and Guadalajara (Mexico), Lima (Peru), and Santiago (Chile)—through codeshare flights with connections in Europe, North America, and Oceania. Today, the Cathay Group flies to 33 destinations in countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative—the program spearheaded by China to promote global infrastructure and trade development—operating nearly 600 weekly flights and expanding its network with additional destinations through codeshare agreements.

In addition to these new services, Cathay Pacific will operate three additional flights per week on its direct Hong Kong-Madrid route starting on October 25, 2026, offering daily frequencies between the two cities.

Lavinia Lau, Customer and Commercial Officer at Cathay Pacific, commented: “We are delighted to add these new destinations in Latin America to our codeshare network. Furthermore, by offering daily flights from Madrid, we are reinforcing our position as the only airline offering direct flights between Hong Kong and Spain. These developments demonstrate our commitment to strengthening connectivity between Asia and markets around the world, offering our passengers more choice and greater convenience, and further solidifying Hong Kong’s role as one of the world’s leading international aviation hubs .”

Cathay Pacific flights between Hong Kong and Madrid will operate on a staggered schedule. The three additional flights—on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays—will offer customers the option of leaving Europe on an overnight flight.

Cathay Pacific's Madrid route, first launched in 2016 with four weekly flights, has become a vital connection between Asia and Spain for both business and leisure travelers. The premium airline also operates a seasonal route between Hong Kong and Barcelona during the summer season, with four weekly flights.
