CruisesNews Editorial No. 51, December 2019In this editorial, we have always praised the industry, but we have also weighed all its strengths against the challenges it faces. As we approach 2020, I wouldn't want to close the year without highlighting some changes that I find fascinating and others that worry me.

We continue to observe how these negative messages, repeated cyclically, end up influencing both public opinion and official circles. Something isn't being done well enough if it doesn't reach the public or if it lacks substance. Therefore, our work, while also commercially driven, is essential. The absence of knowledge, education, and analysis not only compromises the truth but also the growth—yes, the sustainable growth—of this tourism industry.

Cruise lines and all stakeholders in the industry must cooperate not only in promotion but also in communication, training, and information. There can be no accurate reporting based on misinformation.

But I gratefully appreciate that something is changing in the world of cruises and their B2B events. The change is fascinating, and I believe it will continue with this trend: B2B as a growing driver of sustainability in the industry.

We witnessed this firsthand at the recent International Cruise Summit, where our commitment extends beyond education, debate, and information to fostering business relationships. The event also brings together companies that believe in the sector and allows them to assess their capabilities within a demanding industry. Shipping companies are beginning to consider new proposals, and numerous success stories have emerged from this and similar events.

In a context of accelerated transformation of the industry, new technologies, and specifically "big data" which allows monitoring and proper management of tourist flows, seem essential for both local agents and the cruise passenger himself, the main focus of attention for the companies.

The tenth anniversary of the International Cruise Summit is approaching, and we are aware that new challenges are emerging in the industry. Our company must address these challenges by developing new skills and competencies and fostering an organizational structure capable of evolving, innovating, and differentiating itself with agility. Our DNA reflects the transmission of knowledge, informing, educating, and advising.

Happy 2020.
